Brief History of Alyssa's Law

Named after Alyssa Alhadeff, a student who tragically lost her life during the Parkland school shooting, Alyssa’s Law was first passed in New Jersey in 2019. It requires public elementary and secondary schools to install silent panic alarms that directly notify law enforcement during emergencies. Since then, several other states, including Texas, New York, Florida, Tennessee, Utah, and Oklahoma have enacted similar legislation.

Legislation for Alyssa’s Law is pending now in 9 states, with Oklahoma being the most recent state to sign their bill into law on June 14, 2024.
