Choosing the Right Partner: Cybersecurity and School Safety

Cybersecurity and School Safety

We are excited to announce that we have successfully completed our System and Organization Controls (SOC) 2® Type 1 examination on our path to SOC 2 Type 2 in summer 2023. Learn more about what this means—and what it means for schools—here.

The education landscape is evolving. In an increasingly digital world, schools are dealing with significant challenges in cyber safety and cybersecurity. Because schools collect and store a variety of sensitive information, being proactive about those risks and vulnerabilities is critical to protecting it.

Last month, CISA released a report and toolkit designed to help K-12 organizations prepare for and prevent cybersecurity threats. Here are their key findings:

Recommendations from CISA’s report

CISA makes three key recommendations for schools to strengthen their cybersecurity stance. This includes:

  1. Invest in the most impactful security measures and build toward a mature cybersecurity plan. This includes:
    • Deploying multifactor authentication (MFA),
    • Mitigating known exploited vulnerabilities,
    • Implementing and testing backups,
    • Regularly exercising an incident response plan, and
  2. District and school leadership make cybersecurity a top priority. Secure the necessary resources, including leveraging available grant programs and working with technology providers that enable strong security controls by default for no additional charge.
  3. Focus on collaboration and information sharing—participating in groups such as Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) and/or K12 Security Information eXchange (K12 SIX) can help increase your district’s awareness of and resilience to cybersecurity attacks.

Raptor is the only school safety software company to have completed the SOC 2 examination for Security and Privacy, and our funding experts can help you maximize the impact of grant funds so you can better leverage available programs.

“Achieving SOC 2 certification demonstrates to our customers that we are committed to keeping both our systems and our customer’s data safe and secure,” stated Chris Noell, chief product officer for Raptor Technologies. “Just as it’s our mission to protect every child, every school, every day, we are equally committed to keeping the critical systems that support our mission just as secure.”

We are dedicated to safety and security

Raptor’s completion of the SOC 2 Type 1 examination represents our dedication to the security and privacy of your information—we are doing our part to keep your information protected. We know it is an important part of our role in school safety and security.
