In this case study, we’ll review the challenges the district faced—and how Raptor worked with their team to overcome them.
Learning the nuances of school safety
John Garcia, the Safety Administrator at Calallen ISD, holds a unique perspective when it comes to school safety. With 14 years of experience on the police force—two of which he served as police chief—Garcia has helped support school safety from his position as law enforcement and emergency response.
When he accepted his role at Calallen ISD in early 2023, he was eager to bring that expertise to help CISD avoid the challenges and obstacles he’d observed while on the force. There was a learning curve to his new role, however, as he improved school safety from within the district. He wanted the support of school safety software experts to help him quickly learn these new nuances.
Learning a new school safety ecosystem
“I took this position in January 2023. So everything Raptor, everything school related public education side is fairly new to me since I’ve been on the public enforcement side for 14 years. I tell district staff, ‘Hey, I’m learning. We’re going to learn together.’ Luckily, I have Raptor CSP to help me out and answer any questions that I have.” John Garcia, Safety Administrator at Calallen Independent School District
Improving staff engagement with the new system
From his experiences in law enforcement, Garcia knows first-hand how important it is that school staff are on board and familiar with the emergency tools the district provides. He wanted to make sure adoption of a new school safety system went smoothly—and having in-person training options as well as videos available was the best way to increase staff engagement and ownership over their roles in the schools’ safety ecosystem.
In-person training sessions for staff
In-person training gave CISD staff an opportunity to collaborate directly with Raptor training professionals, ensuring their input was heard. Additionally, the collaboration helps the Raptor team align to their culture and set the plan for the interactive district-wide training session. This means everyone hears the same message from Raptor and has the opportunity to ask questions, which builds engagement and helps engrain a culture of safety.
CSP helps CISD fine-tune adoption, accountability, and compliance in monthly sessions
Raptor CSP generates the reports showing how CISD staff are using the system, pulling data like how many staff have logged in, accountability metrics logged, and more—and then works with CISD to assess how they can further improve adoption and usage as needed.
Simple, easy-to-use system paired with Premium, Unlimited Support
“It’s not hard to navigate through Raptor’s system, even for someone who’s not tech savvy. But being on this side of school safety is new to me. So, if I have any questions, our CSP team is there to answer anything that they can.” John Garcia, Safety Administrator at Calallen Independent School District
Premium, unlimited support gives the entire CISD staff direct access to Raptor professionals who are ready to answer their questions. Not only does it free up time for the CISD technology and safety departments, but it also improves adoption of their program because staff are empowered to take control of their safety.
