RICHMOND — All Richmond Community schools will have a new safety measure in place when kids return to class after Christmas break.

One week ago today, a 14-year-old boy shot his way into Dennis Intermediate School and exchanged gunfire with police before killing himself.

The district announced on social media today that starting Monday, Jan. 7, all schools will be using the “Raptor Visitor Management System” to know who’s in the buildings at all times. It’s a system used by other school districts in Central Indiana.

Visitors will be asked to present a government issued ID. The Raptor system will also check names against a national list of registered sex offenders. Once approved, the person will get a visitor’s badge. Badges won’t be needed if you’re just dropping off an item at the office of picking up paperwork.
